9 August 2017 – Today is the beginning of our extended tour of cities and sights in China. This is going to be absolutely amazing!
Beijing (the Great Wall), then train to Xi’an (the Terracotta Warriors), then fly to Chengdu (the Giant Panda Reserve), then fly to Shanghai, then train to Suzhou (Beautiful landscape and gardens – famous for its silk fabrics) and finally train from Suzhou back to Jinan!
The accompanying photo is of Mary and Su Guosong (aka Silk), our personal travel agent / interpreter (translator) / guide. He is my interpreter and translator for the upcoming fall semester in my studio / classroom. We hired him for his English and Chinese skills, knowledge of China, but most of all his personality! A wonderful young man – simply the best China has to offer. There is no way Mary and I could have done this on our own. If we attempted this on our own, it would have been anything but pleasant. Silk made this entire tour possible.
