So, one of their friends who joined us for this wonderful day is a painter as well. He painted an excellent, very large painting on stone (sort of a fresco) of Chairman Mao that sits in old town. I did not include a photo of it here. But his father who used to live in old town, but had to leave because the town was to be turned into a heritage sight – is a very well respected painter too. We visited him and his wife on our way out of old town. I have a catalogue of his work signed by the artist. A man of very few words, but paints some excellent traditional, academic landscapes in the Russian style. A nice man and some beautiful work. And a nice photo of him and some old Meiguo (American) dude!
